Greshne van Wyk (Physiotherapist)
Greshne is a SASMA accredited sport physiotherapist who graduated with a BSc Physiotherapy Degree at the University of the Western Cape in 2006, affiliated with South Africa Society of Physiotherapy (SASP), HPCSA (Health Professional Council of South Africa) and Exercise is Medicine (EIM).
Greshne's physio career
Greshne started her physiotherapy career at Stellenbosch University Sport Performance Institute (SUSPI), which was the Sports Centre of Excellence, as a sport physiotherapist till 2012.
In 2013 she started to work at Campus Health Services(CHS). In due course, Greshne got the position as the divisional head of Campus Health Services physiotherapy practice, and completed her short course in practice management; She also formed part of the teaching and learning platform & clinical services, in collaboration with Stellenbosch University Physiotherapy Department, that forms part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, situated at our Tygerberg Campus.
Hobbies and interests: Greshne loves to exercise. She is happily married, a mother of 2 energetic boys and loves spending quality time hiking with the family.

Work experience
15 years of clinical and event care, with extensive experience in acute and chronic neuromusculoskeletal conditions, injury preventative management: including pre-participation screening, post-concussion assessment and treatment, as well as, acute & post-operative exercise rehabilitation therapy.
She is very passionate about physiotherapy and deeply committed to delivering high-quality patient-centred care by achieving superior patient outcomes in an Integrated Approach to Medicine & Science by applying ethical principles in evidence-based practice, emphasizing on health and well-being of patients, and focusing on the patient -education and accountability.
Over the years she broadened her knowledge by attending short courses & workshops that focus on manual therapy skill sets. Greshne completed a wide range of courses that included Kinesiology, Mulligan and McConnell Taping; Dry Needling and Myopathic Muscle activation for a Sporting Pelvis and more.

Extra courses
She completed her Sport Physiotherapy 1 (SPT1), World Rugby Immediate Care in Rugby (Level 1) & Concussion Management for Doctors & Health Care, a specialized course in Vestibular Rehabilitation that forms part of post-concussive symptoms management and treatment of symptomatic lesions of the vestibular system, and attended workshops that focused specifically on sport-related injuries, as well as, occupational health injuries followed with individualized management.
She also completed a specialized workshop on “An integrated approach of the respiratory system and thorax” that mainly focus on manual therapy techniques that stimulate various structures in the body e.g., one of the bodily soft tissue structures, the vagus nerve that plays an important role in controlling the parasympathetic system.
According to research when the vagus nerve gets stimulated, we can better take control of our minds and bodies, and inflammatory conditions that are related to poor vagal tone.

Sport Experience
Greshne’s working sports career extends from amateur to national level in multi-coded sports events from athletics, hockey, netball, rugby, tennis, soccer, Para-rowing/powerlifting/ athletics.
In 2009, she was selected as a physiotherapist accompanying the Women’s SA hockey team to the African Hockey Cup of Nations, Ghana. That year she was also the physiotherapist for Stellenbosch University Maties Men's hockey team, where they won the USSA Championships.
Greshne was honoured to be a physiotherapist for Team SA at Paralympic Games, London in 2012.
She accompanied Team SA to the All-African Games 2015 in Congo, and formed part of the Paralympic and Olympic Games Road to Rio, training camp 2016 in Switzerland and Italy. Greshne was also honoured to be a member of Team SA’s medical staff that travelled to Common Wealth Games 2022, Birmingham. Greshne triumphed with two victories, USSA Netball Championships and the Varsity Sports Netball Tournament 2022 and is the team physiotherapist for Maties Netball, 1st team.

What to expect?
The physiotherapist will conduct a detailed subjective and physical assessment of your condition.
This will be followed by diagnostic hypotheses to explain the structured systematic, safe and goal-oriented assessment process with outcomes. We use appropriate strategies to motivate the patient to take responsibility for achieving defined goals- educate the patient in self-evaluation.We monitor patient progress that is specific, measurable, achievable and relevant within a specified time frame, - undertake discharge planning in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team in a patient-centred manner

- Acupuncture/needling: this can be helpful in relieving pain and relaxing muscles.
